The Captains Baseball Club Youth Training Program is a data-driven, development-focused system built to teach young athletes the fundamentals of baseball the right way—through movement quality, measurable progress, and modern performance science. Rooted in Driveline Baseball’s Skills That Scale methodology, the program emphasizes foundational skills and repeatable movements that grow with the athlete, ensuring long-term success rather than short-term shortcuts.

A key focus of the program is teaching proper use of the kinetic chain—how the body efficiently transfers energy from the ground up through the hips, torso, and upper body. By training correct sequencing and movement patterns early, athletes develop safer, more powerful, and more mechanically sound swings and throwing motions while maintaining an emphasis on moving fast: run fast, throw fast, swing fast.

To support this movement-based approach, the program integrates advanced technology traditionally reserved for elite training environments. Tools such as Blast Motion bat sensors, Rapsodo ball-flight tracking, radar guns, and slow-motion video analysis provide objective feedback on bat speed, swing path, pitch characteristics, and throwing mechanics. This data allows coaches to tailor instruction to each athlete and gives players clear, measurable insights into their development.

Training sessions combine guided drills, skill-specific progressions, athletic movement training, and individualized feedback to help every athlete build confidence, consistency, and a deep understanding of their own mechanics. The result is a modern youth training experience that blends fun, fundamentals, and science—preparing young players for higher-level competition while building a lifelong foundation of healthy, efficient movement.

The Captains Training Program consists of a 15-week offseason throwing program focused on increasing throwing velocity/accuracy and rotational acceleration, a 15-week offseason hitting program aimed at increasing bat speed and barrel accuracy, and a strength, speed, and agility program. All of our teams that are 9U and older participate in these programs three days a week from December through March at our Captains training facility "The Proving Ground" located in Clearfield, Utah.
In most cases, no—private pitching or hitting coaches are not necessary when your athlete is training with The Captains. Our program is designed to deliver the same individualized development families often seek in private lessons, but with a far more consistent, scientific, and results-driven approach.
Private instruction can vary widely because many coaches rely heavily on personal beliefs about what a swing or pitching motion should look like. These opinions often differ from one coach to another and may not align with an athlete’s natural movement patterns. This can create confusion, mixed messaging, or even inhibit progress.
At The Captains Baseball Club, we remove that subjectivity. Our training is guided by objective data, industry-leading technology, and Driveline’s proven development principles—not by personal preference or outdated theories. Blast Motion, Rapsodo, radar tracking, and slow-motion video give us precise feedback on every athlete’s mechanics, allowing us to build customized drills and progressions that directly address their needs.
We also pride ourselves on what we don’t do: We do not use gimmicks, shortcuts, or buy into the latest “YouTube coach fads.” Instead, we focus on movement quality, proper sequencing of the kinetic chain, and drills that are scientifically validated to produce lasting improvement. Our approach ensures that athletes develop efficient, powerful, and safe mechanics rather than chasing trends or unproven techniques.
Because our system is built on individualized progressions, real data, and consistent coaching language, athletes receive the benefits of personalized instruction within the structure of the program itself. The training they get here is complete, holistic, and designed for long-term development.
In short, private hitting or pitching coaches aren’t necessary when training with The Captains. Your athlete already receives a comprehensive, evidence-based development system that focuses on creating the best version of their swing or delivery—not someone else’s opinion, gimmick, or trend. So save your money, and trust the process.
This is the "road map" that guides our entire program.

Our youth training program is a data-driven player development system built on Driveline Baseball’s Skills That Scale methodology. It focuses on teaching proper movement patterns, foundational baseball skills, and measurable long-term development.
The program is designed for youth athletes who are learning the fundamentals of baseball and looking to improve their skills through structured, modern training methods. We have specific throwing, bat speed, and strength programs for athletes ages 9-12 and 13-15.
Unlike traditional instruction, our program uses advanced technology—such as Blast Motion sensors, Rapsodo monitors, radar guns, and slow-motion video—to provide objective feedback and individualized coaching. We focus on movement efficiency and skills that scale as athletes grow. The Captains are the only club or academy in Utah to adopt these training methods.
Skills That Scale is Driveline Baseball’s development framework, emphasizing fundamental movements and mechanics that remain effective as athletes mature. It prioritizes long-term progression rather than quick fixes. For more information about Skills That Scale and how the Captains program implements STS in our training and practices, watch the video below titled "Captains Philosophy 101: Skills That Scale."
The kinetic chain describes how the body transfers energy from the ground up. Proper sequencing leads to more efficient and powerful movements in both hitting and throwing. Training the kinetic chain early helps athletes build safe, repeatable, and high-quality mechanics.
Yes. Our emphasis on movement quality, proper sequencing, and age-appropriate progressions is designed to build healthy, durable athletes. Technology helps us monitor workload and mechanics to ensure safe training habits.
For our offseason training program, athletes ages 9 through 15 will practice at our Captains training facility, "The Proving Ground" located in Clearfield, Utah, three times a week for 15 weeks from December to March. During the season, our teams typically practice 2-3 times per week and play games 1-2 days per week.
We incorporate industry-leading tools, including:
We use data from our technology tools along with coach evaluations to track improvements in mechanics, bat speed, pitch characteristics, movement patterns, and overall skill development. Athletes receive regular feedback and measurable progress updates.
Costs for the year vary based on the number of leagues and tournaments each team chooses to participate in. Team equipment fees and entry fees for leagues and tournaments are divided evenly among the players on each team. Uniform costs can vary based on the number of hats and jerseys a team chooses to purchase, but typically range from $100-150 per player.
The Captains program fee is $65 per month for the year, or $780 annually per player. This cost covers the equipment and operations costs for "The Proving Ground" facility and allows players access to the facility 3-4 times each week during the offseason and 1-2 times a week during the season.
Coach Jason introduces players, parents, and coaches to the "Skills That Scale" program that was developed by Deven Morgan with Driveline Baseball Academy. The Captains Baseball Club uses STS to guide our year round training, and helps players focus on the skills that will help them succeed at the next level.
